How do I check
quota?
Quota is the term that denotes
the size limit of a storage space. In
the Eos environment, two quotas are important. The first important quota is your AFS home space, a space that is
commonly referred to as the K: drive. The other quota is your IMAP quota, or the space your email is stored in. Some users
have email on POP, which does not have a quota and is stored on your K: drive.

ITECS
provides programs through the Novell Application Launcher that allow you to
check both your IMAP quota and your K: drive (AFS) quota. To open your Novell
Application Launcher, find the Application
Launcher icon on the desktop and double-click
the icon.

The
window at right is a simplified image of the Application Launcher. The
two rightmost icons in the window are used to check quota. Check
K: Quota checks the limit on the K: drive, and Check IMAP Quota checks the limit on your email space.
When
you double-click the Check K: Quota
icon, the command window will appear with your quota displayed in it. (See the
following example).

The
number under the word Quota is the
size limit of your K: drive in kilobytes. The default quota size is 50000
or 50 megabytes. The number under
the word Used is the number of kilobytes you have used. If the Used number equals or exceeds the
Quota number, you will not be able to create or save files. You do not need
to worry about the Partition number.
It won’t affect your ability to use your account. Lastly, press a key and the command window will go away.
When
you double-click the Check IMAP Quota
icon, the following dialog box will appear:

Enter
your Eos/Unity ID and Password. These are the same ones that you use when you log in to Windows.
The Mail Server field should have
updated to your userid.mail.ncsu.edu, but if not, correct it now. Finally, click the OK button.

The program might take a few seconds to get information from the mail server. Eventually, you should get a box like the one on the right:

If you see a box with an error message, like the one on the left, you do not have an IMAP account. You are using POP for email. Remember that you only have a K: drive quota because your POP mail is stored on your K: drive.
The ITECS support staff stresses
that the best way to remain under quota is to delete unneeded files and
email. ITECS does not have the ability to increase your
IMAP quota. You can increase your IMAP quota by purchasing more from the IMAP
help web page at http://www.ncsu.edu/imap.

questions about quota may be directed to ITECS by calling 515-2458 or email at
