Do I have my K: drive?

You need your K: drive to receive email, handle documents in your personal space, and to run some programs from the Novell Application Launcher. You could be missing your K: drive if you get error messages when you try to open your files or run programs.

To find your K: drive, first find the My Computer icon on the desktop. Double-click the icon.

A window will appear that should look similar to this below: If not, hit F5 and refresh the window.

The drives listed here are as follows:

A: Floppy Drive

C: Local Disk Drive

D: Zip Drive

E: CD-Rom Drive

J: "all" of AFS file space

K: "userid" home space on AFS

T: "civil" shared AFS drive for Civil Engineering

Note: You might have to click on the drive to get the full text and drive letter to appear (see the drives in circles above).

If the K: drive and/or the J: drive is missing, you will not be able to get your email. Also, you might not be able to access files on a shared drive, even if the shared drive appears to be there.

You can fix the K: drive by running a program called Kauth. Find the Kauth icon on the desktop. When you double-click the icon, you will see one of the following windows:

If the window is the small one at the top, simply type your User ID and Password and click Authenticate. If you see the second window, click Clear Auth, and the text in the white part of the box will be cleared out. Next, click Authenticate and it will become the small window.

When you finish, the K: drive should be present. If you don't see it, remember to hit F5 in the My Computer window to refresh the screen. If it still isn't there, call ITECS at 515-2458 or send email to itecs@eos.ncsu.edu.
