New software

  1. If a faculty member would like to purchase new software for the labs, they should send a request to http://www.eos.ncsu.edu/software/faculty-requests/. The Service Desk will route the request to the ITECS software team, who will work with the faculty on the license agreements, technical questions, permitted uses, which labs the software should be installed in, etc.
  2. The faculty member will be responsible for ordering the software from the vendor.
  3. The faculty member will provide the software team with the software, license files, and other related files.
  4. The software team will coordinate with other teams within ITECS to prepare the software for the labs.
As a general rule, the software will not be installed during the semester because it may cause conflicts with existing software. Faculty should meet the request deadlines if they would like the software installed the following semester.
  5. If the license will need renewing after a year or other time period, refer to the Renewals section below.

Upgrades

  1. If a faculty member would like the software to be upgraded in the labs, they should send a request to eoshelp@ncsu.edu. The Service Desk will route the request to the ITECS software team, who will work with the faculty member to determine if the vendor had changed the license agreement or permissions.

Renewals

Some software applications are managed by licenses that expire and must be renewed, usually annually.

  1. The faculty member is responsible for renewing the licenses in a timely manner before the current licenses expire. We recommend that they begin the renewal process with the vendor at least a month prior to the expiration date.
  2. The faculty member should send an email to eoshelp@ncsu.edu
The Service Desk will route the request to the ITECS software team, who will work with the faculty to receive the necessary files. New license files should be provided to the software team at least two weeks before the current licenses expire to allow time for the licenses to be updated.
  3. The software team will coordinate with other groups in ITECS to have the licenses updated.

Deadlines

Below are the deadlines for submitting software requests to ITECS. If the deadlines are met, ITECS will guarantee that the software will be in the labs for the requested semester/sessions, assuming no technical issues arise. Any request submitted after the deadline will be added to the bottom of the list and will be installed if time permits.

Fall semester –
New software requests should be received by the first Friday in March.
Upgrade requests should be received by the fourth Friday in March

Spring semester –
New software requests should be received by the first Friday in September.
